Parliamentary elections in Moldova: decisive day has begun

The parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova started at 07:00 local time. According to the Central Election Commission, 1961 polling stations are operating across the country. In addition, 301 polling stations have been set up abroad, where voting hours are determined depending on the location.

In this election, the current president Maia Sandu's pro-European Union “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) party faces competition from three pro-Russian political forces. They are the “Patriots” bloc, the “Alternative” bloc, and the “Our Party” party. At the same time, two other parties were deregistered before the election.

President Maia Sandu, emphasizing the importance of the election in her appeal, said:

“The fate of Moldova will be decided in this process. Because the parliament determines the future of our country. The main issue is membership in the European Union. The Kremlin has allocated hundreds of millions of euros to finance and buy votes for pro-Russian parties. Vote fairly for the prosperity of Moldova.”
