The Russian army intends to restore cavalry units in modern combat

One of the surprising decisions is being discussed in the Russian army - there is a possibility of transferring offensive detachments back to horses. According to "Kommersant," horses were used in some cases before, but this was very rare. Now Russian troops are testing the idea of "restoring a full-fledged cavalry force."

According to reports, the fighters of the "Storm" special units have begun learning to ride horses. The commander told RT that a horse, due to its instincts, has a much lower chance of hitting a mine than a person. Also, in the dark, horses feel the road better.

The tactic itself is interesting: two people are on one horse - one leads the horse, the other is ready to attack with weapons. When a direct battle begins, they dismount and fight on foot. Horses can move quickly and secretly in off-road areas. Also, since they are not made of iron, the risk of launching magnetic mines is much lower.

However, this style is not without its complexities. Horses are difficult to train, feed, and keep. At the same time, the load capacity is very low compared to technical means. Therefore, the possibility of widespread use of horses on the battlefield is questionable, concludes Kommersant.

Analysts note that the attempt to bring the horses back to battle has more symbolic meaning. When modern technologies sometimes show weakness, armies again resort to traditional means: for example, using telephone cables or pack animals.

Earlier, it was reported that the Russian military also used electric scooters and small vehicles capable of moving in off-road terrain at the front. This partially reduced the risk of anti-personnel mines.
