In India, it was decided to temporarily ban cough syrups due to the loss of life of at least 14 children in the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh over the past month. The children initially showed symptoms of colds, then their condition worsened, and cases of renal failure and loss of consciousness were noted.
The prohibited syrups were found in the children's homes, and after their safety was checked, sales were discontinued. Experts suggest that poisoning in these syrups may be caused by the rare Chandipura virus.
Currently, 22 batches of syrup are prohibited. In the state of Rajasthan, several children died after consuming these syrups, and one doctor even lost consciousness after drinking to check the safety of the syrup.
In 2022, 69 children died in Uzbekistan due to the cough syrup "Dok-1 Max" produced in India. Thus, control over drugs that can potentially harm children has been further strengthened.
