In Guangdong, the chikungunya virus is spreading rapidly, there is still no vaccine.
Doctors in Guangdong Province in southern China have noted a sharp spread of the chikungunya virus. In the period from September 28 to October 4, 3,181 people were diagnosed with the infection, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
The number of patients is increasing weekly - from September 21 to 27, 3153 cases were registered, and from September 14 to 20, 2426 cases. Experts report an increase in the number of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, the main carriers of the virus.
Heavy rains and typhoons created a favorable environment for mosquitoes, which increased the spread of the disease. There is currently no effective vaccine or cure for chikungunya.
The incubation period of infection is 3-12 days, with patients experiencing fever, chills, joint pain, and skin rashes. Doctors urge the population to observe precautionary measures.
