On the evening of October 9, a jury in Virginia accused New York Attorney General Letitia James of bank fraud. He is known as one of the most prominent political opponents of US President Donald Trump.
Similar accusations were previously leveled against another Trump critic, former FBI Director James Comey.
The James and Komi investigation was conducted by Trump-appointed prosecutor Lindsay Halligan. The previous prosecutor, citing insufficient evidence, resigned from his position.
According to the charges, Letitia James provided false information to the bank in 2020 to obtain a favorable loan for the purchase of real estate in Virginia.
The Prosecutor General denied these accusations, calling them "unfounded and politically motivated." According to him, Trump is aiming for "personal revenge" through this.
