According to the head of the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev, in 2026, the former Jalal-Abad, now the city of Manas, will be granted the status of the third city of republican significance, Uz24.uz reported.
According to him, some politicians have noted that Manas could become the capital. "If we are worthy of this, why not? Time will tell. However, for this, both the city and the people must be ready. Becoming a capital is not easy — it requires large funds, new infrastructure, and modernity," said Tashiev.
Tashiev emphasized that renaming Jalal-Abad as Manas was a strategically correct decision. The city has begun to play an important role in the country's development and is now considered worthy of a new status.
Currently, large-scale construction and infrastructure works are rapidly being carried out in the city of Manas. According to the plan, it is expected to become one of Kyrgyzstan’s most modern and developed centers.
As a reminder, on September 17, the name of Jalal-Abad city was officially changed to Manas. Currently, more than 184 thousand people live in the city, of whom approximately 30 percent are ethnic Uzbeks.
