The adoption of black cats has been temporarily suspended in the Spanish city of Terrassa. This was reported by the BBC.
According to reports, the local animal protection service decided not to accept applications for temporary care or permanent adoption of black cats from October 6 to November 10. This decision was made to protect black cats from the risk of harm or abuse as a symbol of the holiday on the eve of Halloween.
According to Noel Duke, Deputy Mayor of Terrace City, interest in adopting black cats sharply increases every year before Halloween.
Currently, more than 9,800 cats live in the city. There are about 100 cats in the adoption centers, 12 of which are black.
The city council assessed this measure as a "temporary and precautionary measure" and noted that it is an important step in ensuring the safety and well-being of animals.
