Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again raised the issue of strengthening the country's defense capabilities at the EU leaders' summit in Brussels. According to him, Ukraine may receive US-made long-range Tomahawk missiles through reserves in Europe, the president's official website reported.
Zelenskyy emphasized that these weapons could not only increase Ukraine's defense capabilities but also allow Russia to feel the real consequences of the war. "I call on you to support any initiative that will help Ukraine have such potential. This will have a serious impact on Russia," he said in an address to European leaders.
According to the president, Tomahawk missiles are available not only in the USA, but also in some European countries. "We are already negotiating with countries that can help. Look at Putin's reaction when this topic is mentioned: he gets very nervous. "Because he understands well that long-range weapons can drastically change the course of the war," Zelenskyy stressed.
The Ukrainian leader also called on European countries to transfer Russia's frozen assets to Ukraine as soon as possible. In his opinion, these funds will not only support the country's economy, but will also serve military needs that ensure stability at the front.
"We plan to allocate the main part of these funds to the purchase of European weapons. This money works not only for us, but also for the security of all of Europe. It will strengthen Ukraine's air defense, air force, and front line positions. This means saving thousands of lives," Zelenskyy said.
Analysts believe that Zelenskyy's statement could usher in a new diplomatic phase regarding long-range weapons within the European Union. The Ukrainian president's remarks are likely to influence the positions of some European leaders and, at the same time, provoke new disputes regarding relations with Russia.
Although some European countries have not yet officially discussed the issue of providing such weapons to Ukraine, in recent weeks, there has been an increase in opinions in Europe about the need to take decisive measures against Russian military actions.
Zelenskyy's speech at the summit is considered an important diplomatic step for Ukraine. He urged European countries to strengthen not only political but also military support, reminding them of the need to ensure European security through the Ukrainian front.
