Bloggers in China can now only work with a diploma

A new law regulating bloggers’ activities has come into force in China.

Starting from October 25, bloggers creating content in fields such as medicine, law, education, and finance are required to provide official qualification documents. In other words, they must now hold a relevant diploma, license, or certificate.

The rules, adopted by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), have been implemented on major platforms such as Douyin, Bilibili, and Weibo. Additionally, bloggers are required to indicate the studies and sources on which their content is based.

Officials emphasize that this measure aims to combat online disinformation and protect users from misleading advice. However, critics argue that the new requirements could seriously limit creativity and freedom of speech.

Experts view this reform as a new stage in China’s “trusted information policy” on the internet.
