In Russia's Sverdlovsk region, the trial of a 19-year-old Uzbek man, N. M., has concluded.
This was reported by the "RIA Novosti" news agency.
The incident took place on June 28 in the city of Sredneuralsk. The young man climbed onto the foundation of a Memorial complex dedicated to the memory of those who died on the fronts of World War II, and lit a cigarette from the Eternal Flame.
At the court hearing, the defendant fully admitted his guilt, which allowed the case to be considered under a simplified procedure. The court found N. M.'s actions to be a crime under Part 3 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This article regards desecrating symbols of Russian military glory and insulting the memory of the defenders of the Motherland as a form of restoring Nazism.
