US intelligence: Did Israel commit war crimes in Gaza?

According to US information, Israeli military lawyers warned that military operations in Gaza could be considered war crimes. These operations were mainly carried out using US-supplied weapons. Former US officials said that internal reports showed doubts among Israeli forces about the legality of their tactics.

State Department lawyers repeatedly said that Israel’s military actions might violate international law. However, US intelligence could not prove Israel committed crimes, so arms supplies and intelligence cooperation continued.

The Biden administration held broad discussions on this issue in recent weeks. Various US agencies analyzed the situation, but stopping arms supplies was not done to avoid strengthening Hamas.

Internationally, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for leaders of Israel and Hamas. Israeli forces try to avoid harming civilians, but former officials and intelligence warned that crimes could occur during the Gaza war.
