US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to build a stadium bearing his name. This was reported by ESPN.
According to reports, a new stadium worth $3.7 billion is being built for the National Football League (NFL) team, the Washington Commanders. The facility is being built on the site of the Robert Kennedy Stadium, where the team played its home games in 1961-1996, and it is scheduled to be commissioned in 2030.
Sources indicate that informal negotiations also took place between investors led by the club's co-founder, Josh Harris, and the Trump team.
"This is the president's personal desire and is likely to happen," said one White House official.
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Livitt emphasized Trump's significant contribution to the construction of the new stadium, stating, "This name is very suitable for the stadium because President Trump played a crucial role in its construction."
At the same time, the right to officially approve the stadium's name rests with the district council and the federal land agency, and the "Commanders" team cannot make independent decisions on this matter.
