In North Korea, two entrepreneurs whose businesses had rapidly grown and who, according to authorities, had “become overly arrogant,” were executed. This was reported by foreign media.
According to the information, hundreds of people — including children who were forced to watch — witnessed the public execution in Pyongyang. The entrepreneurs, both around 50 years old, were involved in selling, repairing, and renting electric bicycles, battery-powered motorcycles, and regular bicycles. Although officially registered, they were known in their district as “big bosses” due to their high income.
Some residents accused them of overpricing, poor product quality, and arrogant behaviour. As a result, the entrepreneurs were charged with violating the law “On Rejecting Reactionary Thought and Culture,” illegally circulating foreign currency, and collaborating with external organizations to spread anti-state information.
They were detained in August, interrogated, and sentenced to death in early September. Around 20 of their relatives and associates were reportedly sent to exile or to labour camps for “re-education.”
Sources say the execution was carried out in an open square and organised as a “warning” to the population. Students were even released from classes and forced to watch the execution.
Interestingly, the execution took place shortly after Kim Jong Un returned from his visit to China. Observers interpret this as a harsh signal that even with foreign engagement, internal discipline must not be violated.
After the incident, market activity dropped sharply, businesses linked to the entrepreneurs collapsed, and prices for batteries and spare parts rose significantly.
