Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with US Secretary of Defense Daniel Driscoll, expressed his willingness to negotiate a new peace concept proposed by the Trump administration. This is considered the beginning of a new stage for both Kyiv and Washington.
According to Axios, Zelenskyy and Driskoll discussed the possibility of signing the document "in a short time." That is, the process is moving forward urgently, and both sides want to quickly bring their positions closer together.
The most important aspect is Washington's main requirement. It was reported that the US is asking Kyiv to consider ceding some territories currently under Ukrainian control to Russia. The fact that this demand was not firmly rejected by Zelenskyy also caused great attention. The Ukrainian president expressed his readiness to consider it as a basis for negotiations, not as a single decision.
According to Axios sources, the Trump administration is working on a new 28-point "big deal" to end the Ukraine-Russia conflict. There are also a number of highly controversial conditions within the framework of the plan:
- Official transfer of Donbas to Russia;
- Reduction of the Ukrainian army;
- Abandoning weapons capable of long-range strikes;
- Granting official status to the Russian language in Ukraine;
- Guarantees against the deployment of foreign troops.
It is not difficult to predict that these proposals will cause heated discussions both in Ukrainian society and in Europe. At the same time, Washington aims to "controlledly end the war" and restore a security balance in Europe through this agreement.
At this stage, Zelenskyy prefers to discuss all proposals in a broad format rather than immediately rejecting or accepting them. It is clear that these negotiations will be very controversial for Kyiv, but Zelenskyy's position is significant because it has created a new dynamic in the diplomatic arena.
