A tragic incident that shook society and caused concern throughout the country has been recorded again in Nigeria. On November 21, armed unknown individuals raided a Catholic boarding school and kidnapped more than 200 teenage students and several teachers. NBC News reported this, citing the Christian Association.
The attack reportedly occurred at St. Mary's High School, located in western Nigeria, where students aged 12-17 attend. The armed group illegally took a total of 215 students and 12 teachers. This is the second such attack in a week.
According to police, there were no security forces at the school at the time of the incident. Upon learning of the incident, military personnel and special units were dispatched to the scene. The state government strongly criticized the school's resumption of the educational process without government permission, stating that this decision put students and staff at risk.
Local residents and witnesses say that there was no police or security service at the school during the attack. This allowed the attackers to move without resistance.
This new incident in Nigeria shows that child abductions, armed gang activities, and security system deficiencies are becoming increasingly acute in the country.
