
A gun attack in Saulsville township near Pretoria, South Africa, caused heavy casualties. According to police, on Saturday early morning three unknown armed individuals entered a hostel where a group of people were gathered and started shooting. At least 11 people were killed, including a three-year-old child.
The location was an “illegal venue.” Police officials said that mass shootings often occur at such illegal locations. During the attack, 25 people at the hostel were shot, 14 of them suffered various injuries.
In recent years, crime rates have risen in South Africa. Official statistics show that the country remains one of the nations with the highest murder rates in the world. Only this year, police closed more than 12,000 illegal alcohol outlets and arrested over 18,000 people.
It is still unknown who is behind the attack. Police continue to investigate and search for suspects. Local residents are advised to be cautious and avoid illegal venues.
