2025 was one of the hottest years in Earth's history

According to the European Global Warming Monitoring released on December 9th, 2025 has become one of the hottest years on the planet. France24 reports that this annual temperature indicator has reached the second hottest level in history.

According to the Copernicus Climate Service, 2025 is expected to be the hottest year since 2023. The global temperature has once again been confirmed to be 1.5 °C higher than in the pre-industrial period - this is the threshold defined as dangerous in the Paris Agreement.

According to Samantha Burgess, head of Copernicus's climate strategy, the three-year average temperature between 2023 and 2025 exceeded 1.5°C for the first time. According to him, these figures clearly demonstrate how climate change is accelerating.

According to Copernicus:

- last November became the third hottest November in history;

- the average temperature was 14.02 °C;

- higher than usual temperatures were observed in most regions of the world, especially in the north of Canada and around Antarctica;

- In the northeast of Russia, on the contrary, severe cold anomalies have been recorded.

Experts warn: even small temperature fluctuations destabilize the climate system, causing more frequent disasters such as storms, floods, and forest fires.

The main sources of climate change are fossil fuels and greenhouse gases, which have been burned in large quantities since the Industrial Revolution.
