In Spain, a woman was fired for coming to work too early

In Spain, a young woman working in a delivery service was dismissed because she arrived at work too early. Her case became an example of how excessive punctuality can be regarded by an employer as a violation of labor discipline. This was reported by Oddity Central.

According to the terms of the contract, the woman’s workday was supposed to start at 07:30. However, she regularly arrived between 06:45 and 07:00 and began her shift earlier than her colleagues. The management considered that such a routine disrupted the organization of work and created tension within the team, and repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction. The first warning was issued in 2023, but the employee ignored the notices and continued coming before the designated time.

This year, the boss decided to dismiss her for a “serious fault,” since her premature arrival hindered the performance of duties and in fact did not allow contributing to the company’s work. The woman did not agree with this interpretation and appealed to the social court of Alicante in hopes of contesting the dismissal.

However, the court supported the employer, noting that constantly ignoring the warnings negatively affected the relationship between the employee and the management. The official court decision states:
“The employee’s behavior significantly affected the relationship of trust and loyalty, since despite the company’s warnings, the applicant continued insisting on coming to work earlier than the established time.”
