A tragic incident occurred in northeastern India: a train heading toward Delhi collided with a herd of elephants. As a result, seven elephants were killed and one was seriously injured.
According to reports, the incident took place on December 20 in the Hojai district of Assam state. This area was not designated as a special corridor for elephants. Upon noticing the animals, the train driver immediately applied emergency braking, but the frightened elephants ran toward the train.
As a result of the powerful collision, five train cars derailed. Fortunately, no passengers were injured. However, the loss among the animals was significant.
Following the incident, train traffic on this railway section was temporarily restricted, and trains were redirected via alternative routes.
In short, the clash between human activity and wildlife once again ended in tragedy. The issue of strengthening safety measures in such areas has once again come to the forefront.
