Armed clash occurs on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border

On the night of December 24, an armed clash took place on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The incident occurred in the Shamsiddin Shohin district. Two Tajik citizens were killed, according to the Tajikistan State Committee for National Security.

Three individuals from Afghanistan crossed into a border post. They refused to surrender and resisted with arms. According to the official statement, they planned to attack the post.

All three individuals were neutralized during the fight. Guns, rifles, hand grenades, explosives, and other ammunition were seized. The clash resulted in the deaths of 28-year-old Ismatullo Qurbunov and 33-year-old Zirebon Navro‘zbekov, serving at the “Sarichashma” military unit in Tajikistan.

This is the third armed clash in the past month. Tajikistan called on the Taliban leadership to ensure border security. The State Committee for National Security emphasized that border guards have full capabilities to protect the country.
