Wild elephant threat in Thailand: 30 people killed

Thailand has begun using special control vaccines for elephants to reduce dangerous clashes between humans and wild elephants. Euronews reported this.

According to official data, in 2025, 30 people died in the country due to wild elephants, and 29 people were injured to varying degrees. At the same time, more than 2 thousand cases of damage to sown areas by elephants have been recorded.

According to experts, the annual growth rate of the number of wild elephants is about 8.2%. This is almost twice the usual average. Currently, there are about 4,400 wild elephants in the country, of which 800 live in conflict-prone areas.

The government imported 25 doses of the US-made vaccine and tested it on 7 domesticated elephants for two years. The experiments are reported to have yielded positive results.

This initiative is aimed at mitigating dangerous situations related to elephants emerging into populated areas in search of food while farmers are cutting down forests and expanding agricultural lands.
