Another high-profile report has appeared in the Western press about Russia working on a new hypersonic missile. This time, a claim related to the British tabloid Daily Star came to the forefront: allegedly, Moscow is preparing a new "unstoppable" missile, even more powerful than the "Oreshnik," which could reach London in a very short time. However, importantly, this information has not yet been officially confirmed. Other sources also cite this as a media claim.
Reports indicate that the new system could be more powerful than the "Oreshnik," increase the combat unit's power, and further improve the control system. In some republished materials, it is even written that it carries up to eight kinetic warheads and can strike fortified targets. However, these technical specifications have not been fully confirmed through independent and official sources, so they should be accepted with caution.
The "Oreshnik" mentioned in the text itself is not entirely fiction. Russia officially stated that it had previously commissioned this missile, and according to AP, Vladimir Putin presented it as a system capable of carrying hypersonic and nuclear or conventional warfare systems. Reuters also reported on the deployment of "Oreshnik" systems in Belarus in December.
Another important background is that Reuters wrote in today's material that Russia used systems deemed dangerous for Europe, such as the 9M729, in some of its strikes against Ukraine. There, the "Oreshnik" is also mentioned as one of the medium-range missiles of concern to Europe. That is, it should not be forgotten that such news is not just a dry sensation, but is already spreading against the backdrop of an escalating missile and security environment.
At the same time, the biggest problem with the news about the "new, more powerful rocket" is the lack of official confirmation. Even the materials disseminating this claim acknowledge that the product's development was not officially announced. So, for now, we are not talking about a specific military program, but about claims, assumptions, and rumors in the mass media.
In short, the most correct approach to this topic is not passion, but vigilance. The headline "8 minutes to London," of course, attracts attention. But for now, what can be said with certainty is this: it is known that Russia has missile systems like "Oreshnik" and they are seriously discussed in the European security environment; however, this very claim about "an even stronger new missile" has not yet received official confirmation.
