Zamin.uz presents an analysis of the main "killer" animals in the world and the tragedies they cause.
In the ranking of creatures posing the greatest threat to humanity, not large predators, but barely visible insects are leading. Below are approximate but alarming numbers of animals that cause thousands of deaths each year.
1. Mosquitoes - the most dangerous "killers" of our planet
For thousands of years, seemingly harmless mosquitoes have been humanity's greatest enemies. They end the lives of approximately 760,000 people annually.
- Malaria (Malaria): 80% of deaths are associated with malaria caused by mosquitoes of the Anopheles genus, which causes the death of about half a million children annually.
- Other dangerous diseases: Dengue and yellow fever transmitted through mosquito species such as Aedes aegypti, as well as Japanese encephalitis, are killing another 100,000 people.
2. Venomous snakes and "cold" statistics
It's no coincidence that snakes cause one of the strongest fears in humans. They rank second in our list.
- Annual indicator: According to estimates, 100 thousand people die from venomous snake attacks annually.
- Uncertainty: Since most cases occurred in remote villages, the actual numbers could be even higher. Surprisingly, snakes cause even more victims than people, whom all the animals on the list after them kill together.
3. Unexpected "enemies": Dogs and snails
Our loyal friends, whom we value as pets, unfortunately, can also become a source of danger.
- Risk of rabies: Most of the deaths associated with dogs occur not from bites, but due to rabies that is transmitted through them.
- Parasites: Freshwater slugs annually claim the lives of 14,000 people by spreading schistosomiasis.
Summary: Why do we fear predators more?
The heroes of sensational news and horror films - sharks and wolves - actually occupy the very bottom of the list. This does not mean that they are safe, but rather that they are relatively easy to avoid.
