White House Orders Pentagon to Prepare for Military Operation in Cuba

Another 'hot spot' may emerge on the geopolitical stage. Long-standing cold relations between the US and Cuba have reached the brink of military conflict. Based on a report by USA Today, Zamin.uz examines.
Secret Orders and Pentagon's Actions
The Donald Trump administration has issued a secret directive to the Pentagon regarding a potential military operation on the island of Cuba. According to reliable sources, US Southern Command has been instructed to strengthen contingency planning and remain ready for the president's final order.
How did the conflicts begin?
Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply in January 2026 after the US imposed strict restrictions on oil supplies to Cuba. This economic pressure campaign aims to force Havana into political reforms and a change of the current regime.
The situation was further aggravated by the following factors:
- Events in Venezuela: During an operation in January to remove Nicolas Maduro from power, 32 Cuban soldiers defending him were killed.
- Trump's Statements: The US leader has openly stated several times that Cuba is in his sights. Specifically, on April 13, he hinted that once processes in Iran are resolved, Cuba could be next.
"Once we have settled this matter, we may enter Cuba," Trump said on April 13, referring to ongoing actions against Iran.
Havana's Response and Diplomatic Hopes
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel announced his readiness to fight to the end for national defense and stated that the island can respond to any aggression. He emphasized that dying in the defense of the homeland is equivalent to living.
Despite this, diplomatic negotiations behind the scenes have not stopped:
- The Cuban side is offering the US extensive economic cooperation in energy, ports, and tourism.
- Washington, however, demands fundamental political changes before establishing economic ties.
Some experts believe that Cuba's current administration is experiencing the most severe crisis in its history, and the Trump administration seems determined to bring this system to an end.
Dear readers, do you think this tension between the US and Cuba will turn into a real war? Is there a possibility of reaching an agreement through diplomatic means?
