Kazakhstan imposes six-month ban on egg imports

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has introduced a temporary restriction on the import of fresh chicken eggs into the country. According to the relevant order, the import ban will last for six months, Zakon.kz reports.

The document notes that this decision was made based on the order "On prohibiting the import of fresh chicken eggs into the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan." According to the decree, the import of fresh eggs from third countries and member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) via all types of transport is temporarily suspended.

At the same time, an exception has been established for transit shipments. This means that the movement of egg products between EAEU member states through the territory of Kazakhstan is not included in the restriction.

The decision officially came into force on April 21 and will remain in effect for six months.

Experts and poultry industry representatives note that egg prices in Kazakhstan fluctuate several times throughout the year. Typically, prices decrease during the summer season due to falling demand, as consumers shift toward vegetables and fruits. In the autumn months, producers are often forced to increase prices slightly to compensate for summer losses.

It is anticipated that this restriction is aimed at supporting local producers in the domestic market and maintaining price stability.
