A major traffic accident in Indonesia has caused numerous casualties. On May 6, a tragic collision involving a passenger bus and a fuel tanker occurred on the island of Sumatra.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place in the North Musi Rawas district. As a result, 16 people died, and four others sustained various injuries. It is reported that 14 of the deceased were bus passengers, and two were individuals in the tanker.
Footage shared by witnesses and local television channels showed the vehicles engulfed in flames. According to emergency services, three of the injured were hospitalized with severe burns.
It is believed that the accident was caused by a tire blowout on the bus. Consequently, the driver lost control and collided with the oncoming tanker. A massive fire broke out after the collision, consuming both vehicles. The fact that the tanker was carrying diesel fuel exacerbated the situation.
It is known that such accidents occur frequently in Indonesia due to problems with transport infrastructure and technical conditions. A number of major accidents have been recorded recently.
For instance, in April, 16 women died and dozens were injured in West Java when a train struck another train car. Additionally, in Central Java, a collision between a train and a car resulted in the deaths of four people, including children.
Furthermore, a tragic incident was also recorded in Germany. In the center of Leipzig, a car struck pedestrians, killing two people and leaving several others seriously injured. The suspected driver has been arrested.
Experts emphasize the need to pay serious attention to the technical condition of vehicles and strictly adhere to traffic safety rules to prevent such tragedies.
