Elon Musk usually promotes using the roofs of houses as solar batteries, but he has not ruled out using this energy source in Tesla vehicles as well. However, Sunflare Solars company has surpassed Tesla in this regard and presented a Cybertruck pickup fully covered with solar panels at the CES 2025 exhibition.
According to sources, this upgrade increases the car price by $10,000 but allows generating 1.5 kW of power per day. If the weather is favorable and the vehicle surface is kept clean, these panels can increase the Cybertruck’s range by up to 20 km per day. Tesla had previously promised energy collection for a distance of 24 km per day with solar panels installed on the Cybertruck roof, but this option has not yet been offered to buyers.
According to Musk, the attempt to equip the Tesla Model 3 with solar panels was unsuccessful because the technology level in 2017 did not allow this idea to be practical. Musk also speculated that if a commercial electric van is produced, solar elements could be installed on its roof and side panels, allowing it to travel 48 km in clean air.
The Cybertruck model covered with solar batteries by Sunflare Solars is equipped with a 5 kW power inverter. It transfers solar energy to the traction battery. However, this modification is sensitive to mechanical impacts and surface contamination reduces efficiency, which practically raises a number of questions. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
