What caused the sharp decline in passenger car imports to Uzbekistan?

In January 2025, 1,796 passenger cars worth $31 million were imported to Uzbekistan. This was reported in the monthly report of the Customs Committee.

For comparison, in the same period last year, 10,152 passenger cars worth $221.4 million were imported. Over the past year, automobile imports have decreased by more than 7 times in value and 5.6 times in volume.

The largest decrease was observed in the import of hybrid cars - 31 times. The decrease in the import of electric cars and gasoline passenger cars was 6.7 times and 2.5 times, respectively.

It should be noted that from November 1, 2024, technical tests of imported cars began not in the customs territory, but at the Piskent testing ground. Also, electromagnetic compatibility testing has been introduced for cars imported individually or by private entrepreneurs.
