On April 1, BMW pulled a prank on its social media followers by posting images of a fictional crossover called the M2 Dakar, Carscoops reported.
The M2 Dakar is a made-up vehicle imagined as an off-road rally coupe. It was shown with rugged tires, wide fender flares, ventilation slots, special bumpers for better approach angles, and underbody skid plates.
A roof rack with spare parts, a fuel can, and a spare tire was added on top of the coupe. The engine remained unchanged — the same 3.0-liter inline-six with 480 hp (550 Nm) as the current BMW M2.
BMW unveiled the facelifted 2 Series coupe last summer. The updated flagship version accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.0 seconds with automatic transmission and 4.2 seconds with manual. Acceleration to 200 km/h improved by 0.6 seconds (12.9 and 13.7 seconds, respectively). Top speed is 250 km/h (285 km/h with optional upgrade).
The BMW 2 Series is manufactured at the brand’s factory in Mexico.
