Why drivers film their feet on pedals – experts explain
In China, some drivers have begun installing dashcams that point at the vehicle’s pedals, naav.ru reported. This trend is especially common among electric vehicle owners and may soon spread to other countries, including Russia.

The idea emerged after several incidents involving Tesla’s autopilot malfunctions. Footage of the driver's foot movements can serve as proof that they responded properly and did not violate traffic rules if the automaker tries to shift blame onto the car owner.

Such cases have become more frequent in China. Previously, Tesla owners openly criticized Elon Musk for braking system issues. For example, at a Shanghai auto show, a woman climbed onto a Tesla car and loudly complained about malfunctioning brakes. Her shirt read, “Tesla brakes out of control.” Her Model 3 was involved in an incident where the brakes failed, endangering her family.

A similar scandal happened in the US several years ago when sticky gas pedals on Toyota vehicles led to dozens of injuries.

Despite these issues, Tesla continues to lead in EV sales. Chinese drivers still buy the cars but now use cameras aimed at their pedals for added safety.
