The author of the first two “Harry Potter” films, Chris Columbus, expressed his opinion about the new series being filmed by HBO and criticized it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director voiced his dissatisfaction with the possibility that the project could turn out to be a repetition of the original films.
At first, Chris Columbus responded positively to the idea of a remake, believing that the series could further explore the magical world. However, when the director saw photos of the new Rubeus Hagrid image, his opinion changed drastically. He noticed that the photos used old costumes previously created for Hagrid, comparing it to a “déjà vu” effect, and emphasized the futility of such an approach.
At the same time, Columbus did not hide his satisfaction that Nick Frost is playing the new Hagrid. Yet he noted that, on one hand, he is curious to watch the new series, but on the other, he criticized the lack of innovation in the project’s creative approach.
For reference, rumors about the relaunch of the “Harry Potter” universe first appeared in the spring of 2023. Later, cinematographer Adriano Goldman stated that the first season of the series would consist of 8 episodes, and the filming of the entire project was expected to last about ten years. During this time, more than seven seasons are planned to be released.
The project’s producers are J.K. Rowling, Francesco Gardiner, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. In the new series, the role of Harry Potter is played by Dominic McLaughlin. Arabella Stenton will portray Hermione Granger, while Alastair Stout will appear as Ron Weasley.
