8th century manuscript and Abbasid coins found in Akhsikent

Another historical find on the territory of the Akhsikent archaeological park has attracted public attention. The fund of the new Akhsik complex has been enriched with rare items. This time, 68 ancient coins and 27 manuscript books from the 8th century have been added to the treasury.
According to the head of the archaeological park, Anvar Ikrom, silver coins from the Abbasid period exhibit unique ornaments and perfect Arabic script typical of that period.
In addition, the found manuscripts contain very valuable information on geometry, mathematics, astronomy and medicine. Among them are coins issued during the Samanid and Karakhanid dynasties, as well as sample coins minted in Sweden in 1667–1670 and Great Britain in 1836.
According to experts, the first silver coins date back to the 3rd century BC. Their front part - the obverse - had a portrait of the ruler, and the back part - the reverse - had symbolic images, the names and seals of the kings.
Currently, the Aksikent complex expedition is conducting excavations in the Yakkayigit Park - the territory considered to be the residence of Umarshaikh Mirzo. The new finds have aroused great interest not only among the local population, but also among the general public and scientists.
This discovery once again showed how rich the cultural and scientific heritage of Akhsikent as a historical center is.
