Jennifer Lopez called her divorce from Ben Affleck “the best event in life.” The singer and actress admitted that she officially divorced in the spring of 2024.
In an interview with CBS News Sunday, she said that difficulties in her personal life also affected her work in the film “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” In this film, Affleck and his best friend Matt Damon acted as executive producers. Lopez recalled: “Those were both the best and the hardest days. While playing the role, I felt happy, but when I came home, that feeling disappeared. I only thought: ‘How will I get through this?’”
The artist emphasized that all the challenges only made her stronger, and now she feels free and happy. “Honestly, this was the best thing that ever happened to me. Because it changed me, helped me grow and understand myself. Now I feel like a completely different person compared to last year,” she said.
The summer of 2025 was Lopez’s first summer spent alone. She described it as a new stage of her life: “I started to enjoy life more. Joy is living, appreciating every moment, and sincerely embracing everything life gives you: victories and lessons. Hard times are also a lesson, and I have finally understood that.”
Ben Affleck also spoke about the breakup. According to him, the divorce was not caused by scandals or conflicts. “Many want to find some special reason for divorce. But the truth is much simpler: in relationships, people do not always see things the same way. I am by nature more cautious, and in relationships it was the same,” said the actor.
For reference: Lopez filed for divorce in the summer of 2024. Interestingly, the documents were submitted on August 20 — the same date when, two years earlier, they held their wedding ceremony. In court papers, the official divorce date was listed as April 26, 2024.
After the separation, Lopez refused any financial support from her ex-husband and asked the court to officially reject such assistance.
The couple first met in 2002, were even engaged, but the wedding was postponed, and in 2004 they split up. In 2021 Lopez and Affleck reunited, in April 2022 they announced their engagement, and in July they married.
This was Lopez’s fourth marriage and Affleck’s second. The singer has a son and a daughter from Marc Anthony, while the actor has three children from Jennifer Garner.
