On May 14, 2025, the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan announced the next exchange rates. According to the new rates, the soum has further depreciated against the world's major currencies.
The dollar hits a new record
On this day, 1 US dollar increased by 39.72 soums, amounting to 12,935.27 soums. This was one of the largest increases in recent weeks and was marked as a new record for the dollar. At the end of March, the dollar was trading at around 12,800 soums.
The euro and the pound are also growing
The European currency, the euro, also increased by 28.64 soums, reaching 14,367.20 soums. The British pound sterling increased by 71.82 soums, amounting to 17,091.37 soums. This means that both the euro and the pound are gaining a strong position in the domestic market against the dollar.
Rubble and other currencies also growing
- The Russian ruble appreciated by 1.09 soums to 160.47 soums. Also:
- The Chinese yuan increased by 9.07 soums to 1,796.54 soums;
- The Japanese yen increased by 0.32 soums to 87.41 soums;
- The Kazakh tenge increased by 0.23 soums to 25.43 soums.

The soum's devaluation trend continues
According to Central Bank statistics, the soum depreciated by 4.7% against the dollar in 2024. This is lower than the 9.7% in 2023 and 3.94% in 2022, but it shows that the overall trend is still not in favor of the soum.
According to economists, external debts, import volumes, and the level of inflation have a significant impact on the dynamics of the soum. Therefore, further deepening of reforms is required to stabilize the situation in the foreign exchange market.
