Uzbekistan-Mongolia Cooperation: Sheep Trade and New Opportunities

On August 13, Jambaltseren Temur-Uya, State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, held a meeting with a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Ilzat Kosimov.

At the start of the talks, Ilzat Kosimov emphasized that the agreements reached during recent high-level visits of the two presidents are being implemented quickly and effectively. According to him, tangible results are already visible. For instance, Uzbekistan agreed to purchase 100,000 live sheep and goats from Mongolia, and the first batch of 15,000 sheep is ready for delivery.

He also stressed that Mongolian lamb exported to Uzbekistan is in high demand among local consumers. Given the high quality of the products and consumer interest, it was noted that in the future, processed lamb could be directly sold through the country’s retail chains.

The Uzbek side underlined the crucial role of the private sector in developing meat trade cooperation. Ilzat Kosimov invited major Mongolian meat and livestock producers to establish operations in the Uzbek market.

In addition, he highlighted that bilateral cooperation should not be limited to sheep trade alone, as there are also vast opportunities in the wool and cashmere sectors.

In conclusion, the meeting demonstrated a further deepening of economic ties between Uzbekistan and Mongolia, paving the way for joint projects and new markets. This marks the beginning of a new stage in bilateral cooperation.
