Scientists from the University of Oxford have published a large-scale study devoted to studying the simplest and most accessible preventive method against cancer - regular walking. It is emphasized that by walking 5-9 thousand steps every day, the likelihood of developing malignant tumors in the human body is significantly reduced.

This scientific work, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, is based on reliable data obtained by monitoring the lifestyle and health of 85 thousand people in the UK for 6 years. Scientists were able to accurately measure the physical activity of the participants using fitness trackers - which, unlike previous studies, served to make the results more accurate and scientifically reliable.

The data obtained showed that daily walking steps directly affect the risk of developing cancer. For example, those who walked 5 thousand steps a day were significantly less likely to develop certain types of cancer. Those who walked 7,000 steps a day had an 11 percent lower risk, while those who walked 9,000 steps a day had an 16 percent lower risk. However, those who walked more than 10,000 steps saw no further improvement, meaning the risk reduction leveled off.

Another important aspect of the study was that walking speed was irrelevant. That is, there was almost no difference between walking fast or slow. The main thing is to walk regularly. Scientists say that regular walking can reduce the risk of liver, endometrial (uterine lining), lung, bladder, brain, neck, and even stomach cancers.

Oxford researchers recently concluded that people can significantly protect themselves from cancer by walking for even 30-40 minutes every day.
