The ecological environment accelerates the aging process
An international team of scientists from 40 countries has found that how fast people age depends not only on health and lifestyle, but also on environmental conditions and social inequality, Nature Aging reported.

The large-scale study included 161,981 participants. Using artificial intelligence, researchers calculated each person’s behavioral biological age — the gap between their actual age and health markers like memory, education, blood pressure, and cholesterol.

They found that people living in countries with high air pollution, weak democratic institutions, and high inequality tend to age faster. Cognitive abilities and daily functioning decline more rapidly in such environments.

The best results were seen in some parts of Western Europe. The worst were in Egypt and South Africa. Even within Europe, Eastern and Southern countries showed faster aging trends.

Experts say aging is not only a personal process but also a reflection of the world around us. They call for action against pollution, reduction of inequality, and strengthening of democracy to help slow aging and extend healthy lifespan.
