Over a thousand birds and desert tortoises found to be illegally sold in Tashkent
On March 15, more than 1000 birds and desert tortoises were prevented from being illegally sold at the bird market in the Olmazor district of Tashkent, as reported by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

It was reported that a joint inspection operation was conducted by the Tashkent city prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), the National Guard, and the Ecology Department to investigate cases of illegal trade of wild birds and animals.

During the operation, 1,168 birds were identified, including 935 passerines, 33 woodpeckers, 200 passerines, and 3 accipitriformes, as well as 35 desert tortoises.

The birds were seized from sellers at the market as material evidence and were released into a suitable environment for their survival.

The desert tortoises were temporarily transferred to the Tashkent Zoo, and 3 members of the falconiform family were handed over to the Wild Birds Protection Society.

After medical supervision and care, they will be released back into nature, as stated in the report.
