In the Andijan region, another fraud case was uncovered: a citizen was deceived under the pretext of overseas employment and had a large sum of money taken from him. This was reported by the press service of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the report, employees of the Pakhtaabad district department, together with officers of the internal affairs department, successfully carried out a special operation.
During the operation, a local resident H.M. gained the trust of O.N., a citizen residing in Pakhtaabad district, and exploited his desire to work abroad and earn a high income. He falsely claimed to have connections at the Canadian embassy in Uzbekistan and promised to arrange a high-paying job for O.N. in a short period.
For this “service,” he demanded 3,000 US dollars. As O.N. was handing over the money, the operative team caught H.M. red-handed with physical evidence.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, and investigative procedures are currently underway.
Law enforcement agencies are urging citizens to be cautious in such situations and not to fall for unreliable offers. Citizens who wish to work abroad are advised to deal only with legal and trustworthy organizations.
Authorities also reminded the public to immediately report any suspicious activity to relevant bodies.
