It has been 80 years since the end of World War II. Despite all this time, its history, suffering and hardships are not forgotten. On the contrary, the terrible consequences of the war remind us of the value of peace and tranquility. May 9 - the Day of Remembrance and Honor is embedded in such a meaning.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Victory Park on this date and participated in a memorial ceremony.
A melancholy melody spreads throughout the park. Each monument, symbol and inscription here reflects the terrible truths of war, emphasizes the great contribution of our people to victory. The park is especially crowded on holidays like today.
In accordance with the tradition formed in recent years, the head of our state laid a wreath at the foot of the "Hymn of Courage" monument. This magnificent monument is a reflection of the suffering, courage and losses suffered by our people in the war.
According to documents, about 2 million of our population, which at that time numbered 6 million 800 thousand, took part in the bloody battles against fascism. Of these, about 540 thousand died, 158 thousand went missing, more than 50 thousand died in concentration camps due to unprecedented torture and suffering, and more than 60 thousand returned disabled.
The fact that about 214 thousand Uzbek soldiers and officers were awarded combat orders and medals testifies to their courage.
During the war years, our country became a strong supply base for the front, and a huge amount of military equipment, weapons, clothing, and food was delivered to the battlefields. Despite the extremely difficult conditions, our people took in and showed love to about 1.5 million people evacuated from war zones, including 250 thousand orphans who lost their parents.
– These are truly a chronicle of courage and heroism. We should be proud of our courageous people who made a worthy contribution to such a difficult and glorious victory. We must never forget these heroic deeds and convey them to our youth. This is especially important in these dangerous times. We must all be ready to defend our homeland every day, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In accordance with the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 19, the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II and the Day of Remembrance and Honor are being celebrated with dignity.
