President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, participated in the solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II on May 9.

The Victory Parade was held on Red Square. The event was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Sardor Berdimuhamedov, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and others.

A group of Uzbek soldiers also marched in the parade.

“The victory in World War II is the result of the courage, determination and sacrifice of millions of people. The multinational people of Uzbekistan also made a significant contribution to achieving this great goal.

At the beginning of the war, the population of our republic exceeded 6 million people. During the war years, about two million Uzbeks were sent to the front. More than 538 thousand people died on the battlefields, more than 158 thousand went missing.

For their courage and bravery, more than 214 thousand soldiers and officers from Uzbekistan were awarded combat orders and medals. 301 of our compatriots were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and another 70 were awarded all degrees of the Order of "Glory".

The Uzbek people also showed great courage in labor. Our country became a reliable support for the front: food, clothing, medicines, weapons and other necessary resources were continuously sent from here. The relocation of more than 170 evacuated enterprises in Uzbekistan in a short period of time ensured the uninterrupted operation of the defense industry.

In those difficult years, the people of Uzbekistan showed an example of high humanity, accepting more than 1.5 million people evacuated from the frontline areas, including more than 250 thousand orphans," the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said in a statement.

The courage of the Uzbek people during the war years is widely recognized in the international community.

In our country, special attention is also paid to perpetuating the memory of participants in the war and labor fronts, and providing social support to veterans. The magnificent "Victory Garden" memorial complex was built in Tashkent.

At the end of the Victory Parade, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other heads of state, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden.

This monument is dedicated to the memory of millions of soldiers, including the children of Uzbekistan, who showed unparalleled courage and sacrificed their lives for the cause of Victory.

The ceremony ended with a minute of silence and a solemn march of the guard of honor and a military orchestra.
