Water says nothing… But it takes away. Another heart-wrenching tragedy occurred in Samarkand region. A 16-year-old teenager drowned in a canal in Narpay district. For now, this is only an official fact. But behind it lies a family tragedy, grief of a neighborhood, and a lesson in vigilance for society.
Went out for joy — ended in tragedy
According to reports, the young man went to swim in the local Narpay canal with his close relatives. The boy, named A.S., born in 2009, suddenly drowned due to a moment of carelessness while swimming. His body was found several days later in a section of the canal that passes through a neighboring district.
Tears of relatives: body identified
The body was retrieved from the water with the help of local residents and law enforcement authorities. His family members immediately recognized him. Currently, the Narpay district prosecutor's office is conducting a pre-investigation. A forensic medical examination has been appointed to determine the exact cause of death.
Vigilance — the only key to preventing tragedy
Representatives of the local police and prosecutor’s office emphasize the importance of raising awareness, especially among children and teenagers, during swimming season. Irrigation canals, rivers, and lakes should not be treated as swimming places, as they are dangerous and potentially fatal.
Not the first case… and maybe not the last?
In recent weeks, drowning cases have increased across Uzbekistan. Recently, three children drowned in Parkent district of Tashkent region, and before that, three students died in Pakhtachi district of Samarkand. Such repeated incidents demand alertness and reflection from society.
Conclusion: tragedy is a signal from an invisible enemy
This incident in Narpay is another strong warning: ensuring children's safety, designating safe swimming zones, installing warning signs, and increasing oversight are vital. Every life is priceless. And every tragedy could have been prevented.
