Rule of Law — Citizen Caught at Airport Hiding 250 Grams of Gold
For those intending to commit a crime or violate customs regulations, customs control continues in a constant and strict manner. The latest information provided by the Fergana Regional Customs Department once again confirms the high level of security and legal order being ensured at our country's airports.
Suspicious Behavior Observed in Passenger
On one of the last days of June 2025, at Fergana International Airport, a person who tried to violate customs procedures under the guise of being an ordinary citizen was caught. The suspicious behavior of the passenger, who was preparing to depart abroad, drew the attention of airport customs officers.
Following this, the citizen was subjected to a personal inspection using modern customs control technology — the "Body Scanner." Signs of a legal violation were revealed during this control process.
Smuggling Gold Bullion Is an Illegal Act
During the personal search, 3 gold bars were found hidden in one part of the citizen’s body. The value of this precious metal was estimated at around 358 million soums. The total weight of the gold was determined to be 250 grams.
The detained individual attempted to take this valuable metal out of the country without permission from customs authorities. While it may seem minor at first glance, this act is considered a serious legal offense under Uzbek law.
This case is not only a violation of customs procedures but also an attempt to illegally export national wealth. Gold bullion is considered a strategic resource important to the state economy. Therefore, illegally exporting it is a criminal act and is subject to relevant penalties.
Documentation and Investigation Underway
Currently, the citizen has been fully documented by customs authorities, and investigative actions have begun in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. According to the law, such criminal actions entail administrative and criminal liability.
The Fergana Regional Customs Department is taking all legal and procedural measures regarding this incident. Based on the investigation results, the public will be informed of the measures taken against the citizen.
Interest in Gold Is Not an Excuse for Crime
Sometimes, people choose illegal paths in the hope of quick and easy wealth. However, such actions — especially involving the illegal transportation of strategic resources such as gold, currency, antiques, and elements of cultural heritage — lead to serious punishment.
The citizen who tried to smuggle gold through customs by hiding it on their body is a prime example of such a case. Yet, modern technology, enhanced control, and the professionalism of staff play a vital role in exposing such attempts.
Customs Authorities Call for Vigilance
The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan urges all citizens to strictly follow customs regulations, obey the law, and handle all strategic resources in a legal and official manner.
Particularly, those traveling abroad should ensure that the items they carry comply with the law. Otherwise, they may face not only financial losses but also legal consequences. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
