In the Syrdarya region, an immoral and socially unacceptable incident was recorded. Although a 62-year-old man had divorced his wife, he continued to live in the same house with his daughter-in-law and committed disrespectful, indecent, and aggressive actions toward her, for which he was brought to court.
This case was reviewed by the Sardoba District Criminal Court. The court found that the man had repeatedly hugged, kissed, and harassed his daughter-in-law. Shockingly, he admitted in court that he had promised to buy her gold jewelry in exchange for a kiss, essentially attempting to bribe her.
The father-in-law said in court: he promised to buy her gold jewelry for a kiss. The victim confirmed that these incidents occurred multiple times and that his inappropriate behavior had become constant. She demanded that he be punished and asked the court to make him leave her alone.
During the trial, the man tried to defend himself by saying that the house belonged to him and his son and that the daughter-in-law was not officially registered there. However, the court disregarded this and evaluated only his actions from a legal perspective.
The man admitted his guilt, apologized, and stated that such incidents would not happen again. However, his actions were classified under Article 41-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan — as harassment involving elements of sexual violence.
The Sardoba District Criminal Court sentenced the 62-year-old man to five days of administrative detention. The verdict sparked widespread discussion on social media. Many users reacted to the man’s behavior with disgust and anger.
Such cases highlight the growing need to protect women's inviolability and personal dignity in society. If even family ties cannot protect a woman from unwanted actions, the law must act with full force.
Experts emphasize that all personal relationships — even family matters — must remain within moral and legal boundaries. Especially relationships such as father-son and father-in-law/daughter-in-law are regulated by specific social norms. This case shows a serious violation of those norms.
Society’s response to such cases must be firm and decisive. If every woman can protect herself and society does not remain indifferent, we can build a healthier environment. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
