Manager who extracted sand in Chirchiq sentenced to 6 years in prison

The Criminal Court of Akquurgan District, Tashkent Region, has sentenced the director of “G.S” LLC, S.I., for illegally extracting sand and gravel mixture from the Chirchiq River.

According to reports, during the night from November 6 to 7, 2024, a joint night raid was conducted by the Regional Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the regional prosecutor’s office, and law enforcement agencies. During the raid, it was revealed that a sand-gravel mixture was being extracted from the protected area of the Chirchiq River.

The investigation determined that the mixture was being transported to a stone crushing plant owned by “G.S” LLC. State inspectors calculated that significant environmental damage had been caused and submitted the relevant documents to law enforcement authorities for legal assessment.

The court found S.I. guilty under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 6 years of imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony. He was also ordered to pay substantial damages and a fine in favor of the state.

As a reminder, since May 1, 2024, an indefinite moratorium has been imposed on the extraction of non-metallic materials from the Chirchiq riverbed. The Ministry of Ecology once again emphasizes strict adherence to this law and warns that environmental violations will lead to serious consequences.
