A terrible water tragedy that occurred in the Republic of Karakalpakstan has shocked the public. In the Akchakul water reservoir, located between the Ellikkala and Beruniy districts, three members of one family — a mother and two daughters — drowned and passed away. This tragic event took place around 15:00 on July 23, 2025.
According to the information, a 38-year-old man from Beruniy district went to Lake Akchakul for a leisure trip with his wife, children, and close relatives. They entered the water using a private boat. Everything started as a regular family outing, but when they reached the middle of the lake, the boat capsized due to carelessness.
Sadly, as a result, the 36-year-old wife of the head of the family, Z.R., and their daughters aged 10 and 13 drowned and died at the scene. The father — who was operating the boat — was the only one who survived.
The Emergency Situations Service, rescuers, and local residents quickly arrived at the scene. As a result of the search and rescue operation, the bodies of two victims were found on the same day, while the third body was retrieved from the water nearly two days later.
A criminal case has been initiated by law enforcement authorities regarding this incident. The case is being investigated under Article 102 of the Criminal Code — “Causing death by negligence.” According to the law, causing the death of two or more people due to negligence may be punished by 2 to 3 years of correctional labor, 3 to 5 years of restricted freedom, or 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
At the same time, experts and law enforcement urge the public to strictly follow water safety rules and not to enter water bodies without protective gear or proper equipment. Because the consequences of negligence can be tragic and irreversible.
Such tragedies should raise concern for every family. Rescuers emphasize that especially during the summer, it is important to choose safe and organized recreation areas, not to go on the water with women and children without proper preparation and safety measures, and to always remain alert in any situation.
