Our compatriots, held in slavery in Ukraine, have finally been freed

It was previously reported that 19 Uzbek citizens were forced to work in harsh and degrading conditions in greenhouses in Ukraine, abroad. Now all of them have returned safely to their homeland.

This process was not easy. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian and Moldovan branches of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) worked without interruption for several weeks. The goal was to liberate our compatriots, restore their rights, and safely return them to their homeland.

According to the embassy, Uzbek workers in one of the greenhouses in the Kyiv region have been living in conditions equal to forced labor. They were forced to work hard without their documents, for a small fee. As soon as the incident was covered in Ukrainian media on September 18, the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan personally took the matter under its control.

As a result, the embassy managed to restore the legal status of citizens in a short time, process the necessary documents for them, and grant them the status of "victims." This status protects them from punishment or illegal deportation.

With the assistance of the ILO, material assistance was provided to our compatriots. On October 28, they were transported from Kyiv to Chisinau. In the capital of Moldova, they are provided with safe accommodation, medical care, and food. On November 2, our compatriots, who were accompanied by ILO representatives on the "Kishinyov-Istanbul-Urgench" flight, arrived in Uzbekistan on November 3.
