A program to support victims of violence and exploitation has been launched in the capital of Uzbekistan. Under this initiative, free legal and psychological consultations are provided, and two-month training courses in cooking, cutting, and sewing are organized.
All necessary materials are provided to the participants of the courses. This initiative is part of the “Solidarity Against Human Trafficking” project, which won the grants competition held by the Public Fund for Supporting Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis.
The project is implemented by the Yangihayot District Department of the Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment. The courses are targeted at victims of human trafficking, women who have experienced violence or forced marriage, labor migrants whose rights have been violated, and low-income women.
This support measure comes at a time when efforts to protect women's rights in Uzbekistan are being intensified. Previously, a shelter for victims of gender-based violence was opened in the densely populated Fergana region.
UN agencies have recognized the achievement of economic independence by women as one of the most important tools to escape the cycle of violence and take control of their lives. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
