In social networks, to the reports spreading that the convict S.Sh., who served his sentence in Correctional Institution No. 11, was beaten and that his family members were not being allowed into the hospital, the ombudsman provided an official response.
According to the information, on November 23 the convict was taken under the supervision of colony staff to the Navoi branch of the Republican Scientific Center of Emergency Medical Care (RSCEMC) due to a sharp deterioration in his health. His family was also immediately informed about his condition.
Doctors diagnosed him with severe bilateral bronchopneumonia, ischemic heart disease, and stage 3 FS2 hypertension. Correctional Institution No. 11 submitted a petition for his release due to his illness preventing the serving of the sentence, and on November 26 the Navoi City Court, based on Part 1 of Article 75 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, released him.
On November 27, the convict’s brother contacted the regional representative of the ombudsman, acknowledging that the information spread by the blogger contained inaccuracies. The representative visited the hospital the same day, received information from the citizen, and studied the situation.
At present, pre-investigation verification actions are being carried out by the Navoi Special Prosecutor’s Office regarding the video appeal.
