Another important personnel exchange took place in the energy sector of Uzbekistan. Abdugani Abdurakhmanovich Sanginov, who had headed the joint-stock company "Uzbekgidroenergo" since 2017, has taken over the management of the company "Uzbekneftegaz." He replaced Bakhodir Siddikov, who had worked in this position since March 2023.
This appointment was made against the backdrop of serious changes in the energy system. In particular, the day before, the public's attention was drawn to the dismissal of Alisher Sultanov, the representative of the President of Uzbekistan on energy security issues. In this regard, it is assumed that the new appointment is associated with reforms in the field and reviews in management.
Bakhodir Siddikov headed Uzbekneftegaz for almost two years. According to official information, he has switched to another job.
Abdugani Sanginov has extensive experience in the energy sector. He was appointed chairman of JSC "Uzbekgidroenergo" in May 2017 at the time of its creation and has been working in this position until now. Previously, he headed the "Uzsuvenergo" association under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
On December 17, the "Uzbekgidroenergo" team solemnly saw off Abdugani Sanginov to his new position.
At the same time, some controversial situations were observed during Sanginov's career. In particular, after the disaster at the Sardoba reservoir in 2020, it faced serious criticism on social networks. However, his press service denied the accusations. Later, information spread that the company owned by Sanginov's son was selected as a contractor for a hydropower project worth almost 1.5 trillion soums in Surkhandarya region without a tender.
For information, Uzbekneftegaz was established in 1992 and is the largest gas-producing company in the country. The enterprise is engaged in geological exploration, extraction, transportation, storage, processing, and sale of hydrocarbons. The company, which has been operating as a national holding since 1998, has been headed by a number of experienced managers in different years.
The appointment of the new head is significant because it was carried out at a time when the strategic tasks facing Uzbekneftegaz, issues of efficiency and openness in the industry are becoming increasingly urgent.
